Carya ovata is native to eastern North America, from Quebec to Minnesota down to Georgia and Texas. It is an important tree in a forest ecosystem, providing food for wildlife and nesting habitat for insects and especially bats. The nuts were an important food source for Native Americans and early settlers and its hard wood is used to cure meats, and for tool handles and furniture. This long- lived species is hardy to a wide variety of soil conditions, and versatile in creating a beautiful yet economically important specimen in forest ecosystems and backyards alike.

Bare root planting tips:

~ If you can't plant immediately, store your Pink Flowering Dogwood in a cool location and keep the roots moist or pot in a container with a nursery potting mix from your local garden center.
~ Before planting, let the roots soak for several hours as you prepare the site. You'll want to dig a large enough hole so the root mass can spread out and the plant is at the same soil level as when it was growing in the nursery.
