Hardy, tall, deciduous, coniferous tree

Attractive soft, fern-like needles turn from light green in spring to deep green in summer, then to a brilliant reddish-bronze in fall; produces small, rounded male and female cones; distinctive trunk flares outwards at the base, with deep fluting; fissured, exfoliating bark

Origin: Central China

Until 1941 when it was found growing wild in one remote area of central China, the Dawn Redwood was known only from fossil records reaching back 50-100 million years. Harvard University’s Arnold Arboretum collected seeds in 1947 and distributed them worldwide, thus ensuring the preservation of this ancient species. Closely related to and resembling the native Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum), this stunning tree benefits from ample growing space, consistent moisture and full sun.

This plant will ship bare root. Approximately 12" tall.

~ If you can't plant immediately, store your plant in a cool location and keep the roots moist or pot in a container with a nursery potting mix from your local garden center.

~ Before planting, let the roots soak for several hours as you prepare the site. You'll want to dig a large enough hole so the root mass can spread out and the plant is at the same soil level as when it was growing in the nursery.

~ Once planted, water it in well and wait a month before fertilizing. Mulching will help to maintain moisture and raise soil temperatures for faster growth.
