Wildwood's Hickory Syrup, made for Monticello, is produced in small batches from select hickory bark and still involves the tradition of foraging in Virginia's forests. Once gathered, the bark is washed, roasted, and extracted to develop its exquisite taste enjoyed the world over. Hickory extract is recognized as being used by Native American Indians for its healing properties. The Iroquois in particular were known to drink a decoction of the bark extract to battle arthritis.
